Fractional Laser for Upper Lip

We have been using fractional laser to improve the skin on the upper lip. This technology stimulates the skin to regenerate itself over 3-5 treatments with very little (1-2 days) downtime. We’ve had great results refining pore size, softening fine lines and plumping the skin and while it is an amazing resurfacing treatment for the whole face, the upper lip is proving particularly popular.

Scoupons and Wrinkle Treatments- Why we don’t participate

Many clients have recently asked why we don’t participate in the ever more popular ‘Scoupon’ programs they see on TV and online. An article which recently appeared in Beauty Biz Magazine July/August 2011 edition, helps to explain why.

Wrinkle treatments involve the use of a prescription only medication and it is against the regulations of medical bodies to sell a treatment prior to a full medical assessment, as it may lead to unnecessary or inappropriate use of the medication.

In addition, many of the websites are breaking the rules of advertising. As Dr Gabby Caswell the president of the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australia states “The advertising of Schedule 4 or prescription-only medications is regulated by advertising guidelines set by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. It’s against these guidelines to advertise prescription-only medications such as Botox, by their trade name”.

At anti-aging, we always endeavour to follow the guidelines set out by medical governing bodies and always tailor our treatments to our individual clients needs, which means  ‘Scoupons’ are not for us!

Mineral Makeup

Our skin reflects our inner health and wellbeing.

We all aim for perfect skin using sunblock, having regular facials and peels, laser treatments and our at home skin care routine. All very important things to be doing for optimum skin health and appearance but consider the makeup that we use, often every day. It should be good for our skin!

A good quality mineral makeup will provide a beautiful makeup that is quick to apply and contains ingredients that are good for your skin. I am using Jane Iredale’s mineral makeup. It has a high pigment level and you don’t need much of the product to create a smooth and glowing skin. I am very confident recommending it to my clients and can even apply it after most rejuvenation type IPL treatments.

Migraine Treatment

Oct. 18, 2010 FDA approved the use of “Botox to treat chronic migraine headaches in adults”. It had been approved for use for migraines in the UK since July 2010.

The FDA says Botox injections have been shown to be effective in the prevention of migraines, which are debilitating headaches that cause intense pulsing or throbbing pain and affect about 12% of Americans.
“Chronic migraine is one of the most disabling forms of headache,” Russell Katz, MD, of the FDA, says in a news release.
“Botox to give relief to chronic migraines is given at intervals of about 12 weeks as multiple injections around the head and neck” to and works to dull future headache symptoms, the FDA says in a statement.
The FDA says it’s important that patients who suffer chronic migraines discuss with their doctors whether this treatment is appropriate for them.
One of the studies the FDA based their decision on is outlined below:
The Study:
A clinical study, Botulinum Toxin Type A as a Migraine Preventive Treatment, was conducted by Stephen Silberstein, MD, of the Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; Ninan Mathew, MD, of the Houston Headache Clinic; Joel Saper, MD, of the Michigan Head Pain & Neurological Institute; and Stephen Jenkins, MD, of Allergan, Inc. for the BOTOX Migraine Clinical Research Group. The objective of the study was “to assess the safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BOTOX; Allergan, Inc) in the prevention of migraine.”
Results:
Compared with subjects who received placebo injections, the subjects in the Botox treatment group experienced:
· significantly fewer migraine attacks per month
· reduced severity of migraine attacks
· fewer days using abortive/rescue medications
· fewer episodes of vomiting
Conclusions:
“Pericranial injection of botulinum toxin type A, was found to be a safe treatment that significantly reduced migraine frequency, migraine severity, acute medication usage, and associated vomiting.”

IPL for Facial Capillaries

I never tire of treating facial capillaries – not that doing the actual laser treatment is that exciting but I love that the clients are so happy with the results and the effectiveness of the treatment. They have often have had to hide the broken capiliaries or rosacea on the skin of their face under mountains ofmakeup for years and the relatively quick results are something they never thought possible.

The treatment is usually 2-4 sessions using Palomar’s specific Intensed Pulse Light handpiece thattargets the haemoglobin in the vessels. There is usually a little redness after the procedure and a mild sunburn sensation that lasts for a few hours. It is a great treatment as there is no damage to the skin and can return to normal activities straight after their IPL session with no down time. The results are usually noticeable 2 weeks after the first session when capiliaries appear removed.

Most clients mention that they should have done this years ago!

Stretch Marks with Fractional Laser and Radio Frequency Therapy

I am currently overwhelmed with the popularity of this treatment – so many people want it! Most clients have seen a reduction about 6 weeks after the first treatment. We usually recommend 3-5 treatments and expect at least a 50% improvement to the appearance of stretch marks.

Using the 1540 Fraxel system, the laser reduces the colour of the stretch mark and rebuilding the damaged skin in the area of the stretch mark. The Fractional laser rebuilds the skin by strengthening and tightening the collagen and developing new collagen.

Combining this Fractional Laser with Radio Frequency Therapy further enhances the results

Most treatments are 8 weeks apart and all skin types can be treated. anti-aging Canterbury currently has a special of $299 per A4 sized area per session for the Fractional Laser alone and $500 for the combination treatment of Fractional Laser and Radio Frequency Therapy. When 3 sessions of combination therapy is paid up in front the cost is $1200 – a saving of $300.
