A new Treatment for Rosacea

A common presentation of Rosacea

A common presentation of Rosacea

Do you suffer from Rosacea?

It is a condition which causes redness to appear on the face and is characterised by flare ups. Triggers commonly include sun exposure, emotional stress, hot weather, wind to name a few. It can be an upsetting condition, not only because of the aesthetic effect on the face but can also be embarrassing, with patients often reporting they think they appear flushed or to have been drinking when they have not. Until recently, treatments for Rosacea have been limited to those that treat the symptoms of the condition other than redness. Recently a product was released by Galderma which treats the redness of and Type I rosacea—persistent redness to the central face. The product, Brimonidine gel 0.33%, commercially known as Mirvaso  works by constricting the dilated blood vessels of the face. It is applied once daily to each of the five regions of the face: the forehead, chin, nose, and each cheek. The reduced redness caused by Mirvaso works quickly to reduce the redness and lasts up to 12 hours, with benefit evident as early as 30 minutes after application.
